4 Best Ways To Make Serious Money Online (Long Term)

make serious money online

If you search for “make money online” on Google, you’ll mostly find articles promising you fast and easy methods to rake in some extra cash.

Sure, some of these tactics can give you results if you do them right.

Still, as is most often the case with “loopholes” and “easy” strategies, the money doesn’t last very long.

You make your 100 bucks, maybe a couple thousand if you’re good at it, but that’s pretty much it.

Since the model isn’t sustainable, it’s hard (if not impossible) to scale it up.

If you want to make a lasting impact on your life, you can’t stick to these small-time tactics – you have to think bigger.

So, with that in mind, I’d like to show you 4 ways to make serious money online in the long term.

1. Amazon Kindle Publishing

Kindle publishing was my first serious online business.

It got me started on the road to independence and finally allowed me to escape my 9-5 situation.

If you want a step-by-step guide on how to do this yourself, check out the Kindle Publishing Guide here.

I found it difficult to break past the $5000-a-month mark consistently.

However, I do know people who aggressively reinvested their money and eventually got to a steady $9k-$10k a month.

If you nail the keyword research, book quality, and pen-name branding, you can stay in the self-publishing game for a long time.

Pros & Cons of KDP

Out of all the mentions on this list, Amazon publishing has the lowest barrier of entry.

This makes it very suitable for beginners.

On the other hand, it also means it’s more volatile, due to so many people publishing books every month – resulting in fluctuations in the rankings.

Another drawback is that Amazon could (theoretically) shut you down at any time (though I doubt that will happen in the near future).

(Check out all the pros and cons of the business model here)

If you have enough for the initial investment, it doesn’t take a long time to see a return on it.

I earned my first $100 just two months after publishing my first book.

(Well, technically I really earned it in the first month, but Amazon pays you after a two-month delay.)

KDP Summed Up

If you want to make a livable income, Kindle Publishing can surely be a great vehicle for you, as it was for me.

However, once you reach the $4 to $5k a month mark consistently, I strongly suggest diversifying.

After all, no matter how much you make from it, it’s not a good feeling to have your entire income reliant on a single third-party platform like Amazon.

With that being said, KDP is a fantastic opportunity – especially if you’re new to online business.

2. Coaching/Consulting

I lumped coaching and consulting together, as they tend to blend into each other somewhat.

Still, there are differences:

– Generally speaking, consultants deliver straightforward how-to’s on specific, often quite technical, problems that they either fix or train the client to fix.

Coaches, on the other hand, work more intimately with their clients over a longer period of time, giving encouragement and inspiration along the way, while exploring new horizons.

The Long-Term Potential

You may already have valuable skills and insights that could make you a great coach and/or consultant.

The obvious ones are personal training, general self-improvement (a.k.a. life coaching), and business advice.

However, there are many smaller markets you can enter as well.

Here are some examples of coaching and consulting niches:

  • 3D modeling
  • Coding
  • Competitive gaming
  • Dating
  • Ecommerce
  • Homesteading
  • Interior design
  • Parenting
  • Self publishing
  • Social media marketing
  • Woodworking

Getting Clients

Getting regular clients will take some work, but there are many avenues where you can promote your expertise.

A great way to start getting clients online is to join forums and Facebook groups and contribute to the communities.

Once you’ve shown your ability and trustworthiness, you can start softly pitching your services to those who could use your help.

If you want to expand your reach, creating a personally-branded website is a good idea.

On your website you can display your bio and credentials to warm up your prospects.

You can also place a contact form there, so people can efficiently schedule a session with you.

Additionally, the site can be used to post helpful articles about your field of expertise.

Over time, these can bring in people from search engines that may end up as new clients.

If you feel courageous, your website can also be combined with a Youtube channel for a powerful one-two punch when it comes to content marketing.

Depending on your niche, a dedicated Instagram account can also help you build interest.

After you’ve begun making some money, a portion of your profits can be reinvested into advertising (like Adwords & Facebook) to grow your business further.

3. High-Ceiling Online Services

In addition to coaching and consulting, there are other online services you can do that are less personal and more clear-cut.

Many of these can be self-taught online if you put in the time and effort.

These services should have a high-ceiling.

This means you can potentially be paid a lot of money after a while – as much as six figures or more in yearly income if you get really good at it.

How To Grow Your Service Business

Like coaching, these high-ceiling services can be promoted via outreach, content marketing, and advertising.

However, you can also sell them via popular freelance platforms like Upwork or Guru.com.

Just please keep in mind that you’ll have to gather a good amount of positive reviews on these sites before you can raise your price tags.

Here are some examples of high-ceiling services you can sell online:

  • Copywriting
  • Technical writing
  • Coding
  • Bookkeeping
  • Logo design
  • Social media marketing
  • Search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Photo editing
  • Video editing

4. Building Money Sites

Compared to the other 3 options listed so far, it takes longer to start making a serious income with money sites.

That being said, while the ramp-up time is slower, so is the potential decline.

If you build them the right way, money sites can provide you with passive income for years to come.

Should you keep maintaining them and adding new content, you can keep them going for even longer.

The Anatomy Of A Money Site

But what is a money site, exactly?

Why don’t I just call them websites or blogs?

Well, the definition is quite simple:

A money site is a website that’s built, from A-Z, with the sole purpose of efficiently generating income.

Not to “build an audience”.

Not to promote brand awareness.

Not to share your passion with the world.

– And not as a part-time hobby that’s giving you some beer money every month.

Instead, every part of the creation process, from niche selection to the content plan, must be centered around efficient monetization.

(If you want a detailed, step-by-step guide on how to create money sites, keep an eye out for my upcoming video course – in the meantime, check out the Quick Start Guide)

Basically, it involves picking very profitable niches, promoting the right products (as an affiliate or a producer), and creating high-quality content that funnels people to your offers.

Multiple Streams of Passive Income

Basically, it involves picking very profitable niches, promoting the right products (as an affiliate or a producer), and creating high-quality content that funnels people to your offers.

Another major component is making it as hands-off as possible (after you’ve put in the work, of course).

In other words, automating it so you can keep stacking new content and eventually build a portfolio of money sites.

That way, you get to enjoy that elusive passive income that so many people want, and you get it all online, from multiple streams of income.

Those were the 4 best ways to make serious, long-term money online.
